Learning to take on the world

There aren't many jobs you can do these days without basic computer skills. That's why Andrew McGibbon spends Saturday mornings in the Pivot Learning Center, helping Pivot students brush up their skills or acquire new ones.

Using a computer is not optional in today’s working world. So, from left, Tarell, Neal, and Robert were in Andrew computer skills class on a recent Saturday morning.

Andrew, a member of Black Rock Church in Fairfield, is part of the Business School at CT State Housatonic, the Bridgeport campus of CT’s community college.  He teaches the Microsoft Office suite of applications at Housatonic and, for the last six years, has spent Saturday mornings doing the same at Pivot.

Tarell has used a number of different proprietary systems in shipping & receiving jobs and appreciates being able to broaden his skills.  Neal has used home computers but wants to upgrade what he can do. Robert is glad to have a chance to learn the “right way” to navigate a PC.

Our thanks to:

  • Andrew, for giving his time and talents so faithfully

  • New Canaan Congregational Church for funding new laptops.

  • Green’s Farms Church in Westport, for refurbishing the Learning Center including new HVAC
